Look for stink bugs (green sheild shaped bugs). They often like to suck juices from beans in my garden, causing deformation of the pods. I wonder if that might not be what's doing this?

Whenever I am going through my garden I keep my eyes peeled for stink bugs, and squash them as I go.

Thank you Mac, yes found ONE on green beans this morning but multiple on my tomatoes which are adjacent to beans. I am so distraught about what to do, did not want to pesticide, but want to save crop. I killed what I saw, will doing that be enough? should we avoid eating these bens?

No. The beans should be fine to eat. They are simply not aesthetically pleasing. Yes, searching for and killing the stink bugs should help a lot. I simply crush them with my fingers (and am always reminded of how they got their name!). But one could use a disposable cup with some water and a dash of cooking oil. With this set up, one only has to knock the bugs into the "drink," and they drown.

You'll probably notice some tomatoes with blotches on them. This too is caused by the bite of the stink bug.
