Mine were planted the end of May and blossoms are just now appearing.

Like Tennessee Cutshort, they are best after they plump up.

Dar's numbers probably assume hot weather. I was able to save seed last summer even though the summer weather started about July 1 here. - Dick

Dick I started mine in the greenhouse June 13, then into 4" pots June 22. I planted them out July 13, they've just reached the top of their 8' pole and although the flowers aren't fully open they're there, I'm a bit behind you.

Annette it appears that we have similar weather.

I just took a look at my TW beans (my office is 200 feet from my garden) and those that were planted the end of May as sprouted beans do not yet have open blossoms. Those started in pots in mid May have a few 1" beans.

Finding beans that will do well here has been an ongoing project but this summer I'm starting to think that I need to get some gallon pots and build another hoop house and start everything in April! - Dick

We've had a couple of feeds, the flavor is a little different to what I'm used to but still quite good, Although planted late it looks like I'll even get some viable seed, several pods have already turned yellow. We've had some rainy days but the temps are holding. How's the weather down your way Dick, think we're pushing it to ask for a nice october?

Hi Annette. It seems like summer got moved over a couple months. Instead of June-July-August it was August-September. September has been very fine with 83F yesterday and hot today again. Then fall weather starting tomorrow. It looks like we will have mature seed for most varieties. We did have a couple rainy days but I am having to water again.

Been expert "Gardenlad" who used to frequent this forum considered Tobacco Worm the finest of all beans. You might find his posts interesting. He posted several times on the original Shelly Bean thread and many other threads. - Dick

It's the end of bean season for me, just two more varieties I have to collect seed from and it's over for another year.

Now don't you laugh it works, we've had some serious rain the last few days but this little old umbrella is keeping most of the beans dry, I've already harvested a handful of seed and it looks like I'm going to get a bunch more. DH made a collar that slips over and screws into the top of this pole made of conduit, he drilled holes for strings, I just have to fashion something to weight it down on windy days.
