I've mentioned several times recently what a tremendous flowering response I got from using 10-54-10. It would be interesting if someone else tried the high phosphorus I've been recommending for years and finally tried, and also got a good response. But if you are organic and don't want to use chemical fertilizer, then never mind.

Just a followup: Two weeks ago, after making my last post I went up to the garden to give them one last look before ripping them out. They must bloom very secretly because I did find a single flower and then noticed several plants were actually forming pods! I'm going to let them run the course since I have plenty of room for my fall greens needs now that other things have come out. The cowpea yield may be small, but at least it was a learning experience. :)

Shady, bone meal is a good way to add P to your garden organically. It takes a bit longer to absorb than the chemical stuff, but it works. We used it in the hole where we transplanted the tomatoes and we are happy with the extra fruit compared to previous years. No reason why it would not work with beans and Happy confirms it, but with the soluble high P fertilizer (which we use for some tomato plants in pots and for some flowers). Not organic here, just pesticide and herbicide free.

My cow peas have not flowered yet either, but we got until Dec 21 usually for a first (and often only) frost. It has been very cool too, does not help cow peas.

My Red Ripper peas and the Mongetes are finally flowering and setting small beans too, though it has gotten cooler the last week. Cowpeas do like the heat it seems. We only have 4-5 weeks left in a good year and could get first frost anytime now, so I hope these beans have time to finish.

Agree with Cabrita on the bonemeal. Are Organics allowed to use bonemeal and bloodmeal?

I have the same problem. I had grown 7 local Cowpea cultivars since 3 months . One of them bloomed, the others are not
