The topic line alone should tell you how little I know about either plant.

A month or so ago, I noticed a very striking flower in my neighbor's yard. The leaves on the plant were upright, long, and spear-like. They look a lot like the Variegated Japanese Irises I have in my yard. But it was the flower that caught my attention. It was very small... I'd say no more than an inch across... and a DEEP VIVID ORANGE.

My neighbor says the plant is a Black Berry Lily, but a Google search returns pictures of a plant with a larger, spotted bloom.

A few days ago, she gave me a "spare" to plant, with the promise of more to come. It DEFINITELY wasn't a bulb. It looked more like a rhizome to me... sort of like ginseng root. Do lilies grow from rhizomes?

My flower is in pretty rough shape right now, which is to be expected, but I was wondering how to handle the seed pods. The plant hah already sent up a pair of narrow green stalks (I would appreciate correct names here), each growing from a point where a leaf branches off from the plant. Each stalk has, in turn, produced a side stalk. All along these stalks are seed pods, which alternate from the right to left of the stalk. Each pod has three chambers and a small, round mark at the top, where I assume the flower was.

That's all I know.

Does anyone know what sort of plant I have?

Should I snip off the seed stalks so the plant doesn't waste any energy with them?

Any information would be appreciated.
