Yes, my experience is that they can take a year (maybe even two) to settle in. Once established they are hardy and long-lived. Since yours has broken the ground...just not performed up to snuff I'd just be patient and see what next year brings. In the spring, try adding a couple inches of compost/manure in a 50/50 ratio.

I started mine from bulbs and they did fine the first year, in a very inhospitable spot. They have performed really well since then, despite drought and 2 brutal winters. I have had other lilies, though, that did not do so good their first year from bulbs.

I bought some lilies this year that were in pots that were FAR too small. Despite planting in great soil, watering, etc., they look awful. Could the pot have been too small and that set your bulb back?

I hope they perform for you. I just love mine. That green center is amazing.
