Oriental Lilies

I am building a new raised flower bed, and wanting to order some lilies. This bed is located in FULL sun to where it will get atleast 8 hrs of sun if not more. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of lilies will work in that much sun? I am leaning towards Oriental and Orienpet, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am told that ORienpets are much tougher and easier to grow than orientals which can be temperamental and might like some shade for a bit in the afternoon. Can't speak myself for the orientals, but I do know that my orienpets are right out there in all-day sun and have never raised an objection of any kind--so I say, go orienpet. Mine are glorious! Real show-offs.

I would also go Orienpet. Is height a consideration? Arabesque is a fave along with Scherazade, Flashpoint is very showy.

I grow orientals in full sun. As long as their roots are shaded with someting(other perennials, annuals, behind a stone or something), they are fine. Orientals like acid soil with a lot of air for the roots. I have mine with rhododendrons.

Thanks so much for all the advice. I would love to do both. So I will probably try just a few orientals to start with. I am mixing them with Daylilies, so I think they will hide the roots good.
But I am defenietly gonna do a lot of the Orienpet lilies. Can anyone tell me if they spread fast? Or does it take alot of bulbs to start a good clump of showy lilies.

It depends. For me Scheherazade multiplies well, Silk Road after 6 years has one baby though people in other areas of the country say it multiplies well for them. Arabesque, Flashpoint, and Invasion are on their 2nd year, Nothing yet. Conca'Or (sp) is 1st year.

Even though they all should grow wonderfully here, I've had much better luck with Orienpets and species lilies such as L. rubrum and 'Black Beauty' than Orientals such as 'Star Gazer' and 'Mona Lisa' the Orientals dwindle every year but the Orienpets and species grow bigger with more stems and flowers.

I don't what kind of lily this is. I was given the roots about 6 years ago. They are very fragrant. I have a large bed of them in the back yard and I want to dig and move some to another site.

When is the best time to do that? Fall or Spring? I don't remember whether they were given to me in Fall or Spring.

    Thank you.
