Despite name, not a lily at all......actually related to asparagus and is just another fleshy rooted perennial. Has a rather brittle, tuberous root system that needs to be handled carefully. Good drainage is key. If you remember that these plants originate from warm, dry climates (Turkey, Russian steppes, etc) and can offer similar conditions, you should be fine.

IMO, these plants look best massed - I'd go for groupings of 5 or more if you have space and $$. And I think your choice of companions fine. You can always add some purple iris to further the grassy look with additional purple.

Oh thank you, not too bad for first try then? So I've realised you're right I'll get more. So yellow and white. What about adding a single orange as a stray or maybe a red/pink one?

I am rather fond of a hybrid cultivar called 'Cleopatra' that is a wonderful peachy-orange color that I think would look stunning with your purple compliments. If it were my garden, I'd bulk up on that one!

As to what grasses to include, I'd look at some of the switch grasses, Panicum virgatum. The cultivars 'Shenandoah', 'Red Sunset', 'Red Cloud' and 'Prairie Fire' all have some purply-red tones that would compliment nicely. Or purple muhly grass, Muhlenbergia capillaris.
