Draceana sanderiana is native to tropical Africa. It is not hardy by any stretch of the imagination. Remember, this is a tropical house plant, not a bamboo.

Where did you get the seed? I never thought of trying it that way. And how did you sow it? In potting mix? Tell all!

The type I have is Hetroclada. I started it in potting soil indoors. It's actually a type of Grass as opposed to a true Bamboo.

All true Bamboos ARE grasses.

If your plant is Phyllostachys heteroclada then it is a true bamboo but it is not hardy in zone 5, recommended 6b and above.

"Lucky Bamboo" is a houseplant, Dracaena sanderiana.

Hmmmm... I'll try a search for that. When I search for heteroclada, which is what the seeds were traded as, all of the searches bring up "Lucky Bamboo". Thanks for the info. I'm going to do some more research.
