Two plants with the same name? What?

The whole lucky bamboo/ribbon plant/dracaena s-something is really confusing me.

This is what I call a ribbon plant:

This is what I call lucky bamboo:

They're clearly not the same thing, and yet I keep reading that they are. I've read that lucky bamboo is just a ribbon plant that has had its leaves stripped to look like bamboo, but I have two problems with that. One is that the leaves look different, and the other is that mine is growing to look like bamboo all by itself. I also get conflicting care information regardless of which name I search with. Mine has been growing nicely in a glass container that I keep full of aquarium water (about 5-10 ppm of nitrates), with the stalks submerged about an inch. So what's the deal with these two plants? I'm really confused.
