I moved into this house last year and there was a JM that had a good bit of small branches that were dead. I pruned just the dead off and it looked nice all year. This year I see that its doing the same thing. It is producing leaves and new growth but a lot of the old growth is dead. none of the large branches but many of the smaller new growth from last year.

It does get a good amount of sun and I saw a little leaf burn at the end of last summer. I don't see any rotting word or bugs.

Any ideas?
