Contender is a large ( for a bush snap bean) kidney bean shaped seed. Royal Burgundy is about 1/3 smaller and slighly darker.

My attempts to grow Royal Burgundy in the heat of a North Carolina summer have not been successful. A pity, since they were one of my favorite bush beans in the north.

I don't know if they could be grown as a winter crop if you're frost-free all winter.

Have to grow snap bean spring and fall here. Summer is restricted to limas and cowpeas which can take the heat. Royal Burgundy does well planted around last frost date.
