"Section Palmata, series Sinensia. In its habitat a tree up to 15 m (50 feet), in cultivation much smaller, probably not more than 5 m (16 feet), rather densely branched, similar to A. campbellii and its other relatives. Leaves 7-10 cm (2 3/4-4 inches) wide, thin and somewhat papery, five-lobed, basal lobes much smaller than the others, leaf color light purple when unfolding, becoming green when they mature. Flowers green. Samaras 2-3 cm (3/4-1 1/8 inches) long, brownish yellow, nutlets swollen. Native to Jiangxi and Zhejiang Provinces in China. Described by Fang Wen-pei and Chiu Pao-ling in 1979 and introduced into Europe about 1990 through seeds supplied courtesy of Wang Dajun, former curator of the Long Wu Lu Botanic Gardens, Shanghai. Rare in cultivation, it is rather tender. Zone 7 (Europe 8)"

Would like to hear what people think of it.

I just picked up a rather large-sized specimen for a song (I have to give him the pot back, otherwise it was free) due to the fact that the nursery owner was tired of moving it up into bigger pots continuously and wanted to make room for more stock (and he thought that I would appreciate it). I can't find anyone around here growing it. Anything to add to the comments above? My tree is about 8' tall. Mercifully my husband has a backhoe so can transport it to where it is going to live. I was planning to plant it in 1/2 sun, 1/2 shade.
