It appears that one of our large maples has succumbed to the current TX drought. It is about 50 feet tall, with a large trunk. Rather than have it removed, would it be feasible to just leave it in the backyard and maybe grow some vines up the trunk? We have lots of owls and woodpeckers and it might make a nice nesting opportunity for them. Or would it be much more subject to toppling over and thus better to remove it?
