I'd plant them about 5-6" apart. If you do rows, then you should leave about 2 1/2 - 3' between the rows. I often do bush beans in a wide row. The main problem, when you don't leave enough room between the rows, is that it's very hard to get in there to pick, without damaging the plants.

I believe if you crowd them in a row you'll probably cut down on overall harvest per plant. If I recall correctly, Dragon Tongue sprawls a bit more than, say, Contender.

Thanks macmex, These are going to run along the border of my garden like a little hedge.

I often grew Dragon Tongue when I lived in cooler climates. They are the tastiest wax bean I've ever had. I gave the plants a bit more room than the average bush bean because they are large and vigorous -- maybe 10% bigger than Royal Burgundy and 25% bigger than the rather compact Contender.

I have, however, found that they did not do well at all here in North Carolina. They seem to be a cool-weather variety.

If they do grow well in AZ, don't pull them up after you've picked the first wave of beans because, unlike newer varieties bred for machine picking, they'll grow some more and put out another flush of beans.
