I know this is a stupid question but why would anyone want to graft a pea plant?

never heard of it being done accept this one little article. the only things in the legumes family i have tried to graft are royal ponciana and tamarind with no luck on any of them but maybe the beans being more herbaceous they will graft. there is a lima relative cannot remmber the name of it that has been known to live for 3 years and up to 7 years. wonder if a bush bean grafted to that would help make it more perrineal if they are even close enough related to be graft compatable. i say if you have the space and beans to experiment with give it a try.
