Is there a way to stimulate or trigger a Japanese Maple to generate buds at specific points on the trunk and branches? I have several that I would like to encourage some balancing growth on, and don't mind it taking years. If this can be done without grafting I would be interested in knowing how. I'm not even sure what this would be called if it is possible.
