My advise is to keep it potted...fertilize it in early spring only and make sure you are using the right medium... see posts here on that...and water infrequently...... I am not sold on the hardiness of Pixie ...it made it through the winter in a pretty protected place but was really creamed by the freeze ...now we may never get another freeze like this again but I DON'T think this is a very hardy tree for zone 5 even though it is a witches broom ( I believe ) of a bloodgood ...a hardy tree ...these brooms tend to be less hardy..Mine is totally DOA ( unlike ,most of my other much more exposed trees including BG's ( it's parentage) and it was 5 ft tall (not a younin like yours) so do the math with yours... keep it potted and take in the unheated garage or shed in winter or face possible consequences David

OOOPPPSSS Stacy I have WAY too many JM's ...I was thinking of my Skeeters broom that was totally demo'd... Sorry ...I'd still keep it potted til it gets a bit older maybe another year or two and place as i have stated above in winter...It is way too small to plant out without varias risks ..again sorry I think that variety may be ok planted out ( when it gets of size) but I can't swear to it...others may be more familiar with Pixie...David

Thanks for the great advise David! The pixie is currently in a small pot in a nice sun/shade area. We have a garage and a shed.. so I think it should be fine. Thanks again!

I'm not sure about the hardiness of 'pixie', but it seems much tougher than 'shaina' and some other witches brooms. In fact, I don't believe 'pixie' is a witches broom. I believe it is a "natural" dwarf.
