Howdy,
I would defintaly concentrate on lillies at this time.
My first bed I ever created at our home 4 years ago was
basically a spring flower bed of daffodills and crocus and
tulips. It looks great in the spring for about a month total, then it peters out and you have to let the plants die back if and it takes untill the end of july amost for the daffodills to do so. Dont get me wrong, its a great shot in the arm in may to get these flowers, but I wish now that I had known what I was doing, I defintly wouldve planted alot more diversely as the rest of the year I have to put pots on top of the bed for any interest there at all. I could tear it up, but now my wife wont let me =(. She really likes it in the early spring to see a few hundred flowers come up.

Lilies are definitely useful for hiding the dying foliage of spring bulbs. You might also consider planting geraniums (cranesbill)--they come in lots of colors, have a long blooming season, and are nice and bushy for hiding those daffodils and tulips that are past their prime.
