Japanese maple dieback

I have a red maple.I'm not sure what the name is. It is not a bloodgood.I purchased it from a nursury 3yrs ago. It is about 15ft tall by 10feet wide. The root ball was very large.Just this year when the tree began to leaf, I noticed a whole section having no leaves.I cut off a section and took it to the nursery. They diagnosed it with verticillium. Do you have any suggestions how I can save this tree? It is so gorgeous. The man from the nursery looked at the branch I took him and noticed a brown ring on the end cut. This is where he got his diagnosis. Is there anyone with more help to determin if this is it, or anything can be done? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Cindy
