Thanks mainerose, I read the thread. Did you plant any of the shrubs or trees that nhbabs suggested? I'm really interested in the Atlantic White Cedar and also some of the native shrubs that were mentioned.

Yes, I have planted a cedar hedge---twice. Destroyed by deer the first time. Replanted it once again, Guess it was just as tasty as the first time [BG] I love our deer, but they have forty posted acres to browse on, a as well as humongous numbers of windfall apples AND we have 3 dogs---wouldn't you think they'd get a clue? I do have some recommended deer repellent if I decide to be foolish and plant it one more time.

I've got hungry deer too, but they tend to stay outside the dog fence where these cedars would go so I might just be ok. The two dogs keep most critters out of their area. Outside the fence is a completely different story, although the deer haven't bothered any of my plants near the house I have yet to temp fate by planting in their favorite spots. Thanks for the info!
