It IS a pretty tree in the fall!

Unfortunately - it WAS. It's gone now.
Too many battle scars and wounds over the years.
The main "fork" was rotting, and there was severe twisting on the trunk.
Now what to plant to get those colors back?

It looks like a sugar to me...but it is impossible to tell for sure without a closeup of the leaves. There are sugar maples with that color though...although I'm not as familiar with them since they don't do well down south due to the heat.

Sango Kaku has a similar folige color to the above tree...but I think Sango Kaku is much smaller than the tree above..

that's a really nice tree you've got there...i can imagine lying on the grass and watch those golden leaves in a nice day.
