From Wow to Ka-pow

On a previous thread mary_littlerockar asked that I post a picture when my A. tuberosa bloomed. Well, it is now blooming and I thought a series of pictures from spring emergence to the present would be interesting. I had hoped to be showing a spectacular bloom this year...

This morning (June 7) after HEAVY rain - the aesthetics are gone but it is still quite busy with insects, now just need some monarch cats...

Wow! I'm impressed...wish they could survive here, but that won't happen.

Have you tried A. tuberosa? I consider it one of the most heat and drought tolerant milkweeds there are. I should have seeds this fall if you want to try growing some.

Yes, I've tried two plants, which didn't survive long. A local native nursery owner says they also had the same problem...probably why I've never seen any A. tuberosa growing in the wild in this area. A. asperula and A. texana are the two best native species here.

Bummer. I'll plant a few more here in honor of those of you who can't grow it. Here it is very resilient and blooms beautifully.
