BigTooth Maple Growth Rate

Just planted my first maple in January. It has already grown from 23" to 36". Had not expected so much growth so soon.
How much growth should you normally expect from a Big Tooth Maple annually? Does the growth all occur in the spring and then stop, or is it all summer long?
