Planting Acer 'Coral bark' now?

I bought two beautiful 6' Coral Bark Japanese Maples a few days ago. They're both in small 1.5 gallon pots. Is now a terrible time to plant them in the ground? They'll be getting a bit too much direct light than they should. It'll be in the mid 80s all week. I'm in zone 9, Sunset 17.

Should I just keep them well watered in their pots until January or so? What do ya'll think?

Just a thought- I was forced to move a JM last summer at the worst possible time and just built a small shadecloth out of some wooden stakes and some burlap.
Worked like a charm- the weave of the burlap was loose enough that some light got through but not enough to scorch.

It's always helpful to know the conditions in which the plants were grown- have you any idea how they were being kept?

They were being kept under a mesh overhang at the nursery. They are now being kept in 50% shade.
