Shredded paper question

I haven't been here for awhile but now have a question that maybe some you might have an answer for. Having a shredder and since I'm going through some old files and discarding stuff, I'm wondering if this shredded paper will make good mulch in the garden this coming summer. I've used plain newspaper between rows before and

haven't noticed anything happening except it did keep a few weeds down.

Hi Posie. I don't think it will hurt anything, so long as there isn't any 'shiny' paper in the mix (or at least not much. I put layers of paper under new mulch all the time. In 2 or 3 years it composts and is gone.

It is good in the compost bin as a "dry" layer too!

I agree with Julie,I put shredded paper into my compost bin.

I wouldn't use it around edibles myself. It does look rather unattractive to me as mulch, so I'd vote for composting, too.
