I'm running out of shrub ideas for a hot & sunny location with no shade in central VA. I already have two red flowered weigelas planted within a perennial bed, but want to add another shrub variety. I thought that either one of the variegated weigela varieties or Wine 'n Roses would be different enough from my other weigela, but some posting here say Wine 'n Roses' and the variegated varities leaves burn in hot locations.

I've thought about crape myrtle if I can get a mid-sized true purple. Finding this color isn't proving easy!

I'd sure appreciate other ideas for a 5 X 5 shrub.
