xman,

I've ordered japanese maples from nurseries ranging from the east coast, to the southern region, and to the west and northwest. Having said that, I've been most satisfied with trees received from Wildwood Farm. They may sometimes be smaller than what's supplied by other nurseries, but they seem to always have a more balanced canopy and a fairly good root system. Also, their trees have the appearance of being well cared for, and not growing wild and jacked up on growth stimulants.

By the way, I'm a newbie here. I've been following this and another forum for several years and the mention of Wildwood Farm and your southern location prompted me to finally become a member.

Thanks

Xman--

They are as good as any. I delt with them this past year on about 3 orders and I like their plants. Most of all, Sara is a pleasure to deal with. I think there is a very level playing field with the mail order establishments right now. All occassionally ship the wrong plant, or one might die from time to time, but all in all they do a good job. I will say that depending on your region and the pricing there, Wildwood is a little expensive but they are in the ball park. Not quite as expensive as another I can think of.

Only good experiences here. Fall of 2003, I purchased 2 Peaches-n-cream and 1 Red Filigree Lace for $66 plus shipping. All are alive and doing well.

thanks for all the replies.
I have always had bad experiences buying maples online(mostly from ebay). Bad grafts, twiggy, uneven branching, etc. I talked to wildwood farm and they seemed like a small outfit who knew their trees rather than some large bulk seller. I am hoping to buy some trees from them in fall.
