It's a little early to say with surety how my plants of Fargesia rufa have fared this past winter, but they look good so far. About half of the exposed foliage is still green, but I expect all above ground leaves to wither. This will be the second winter for them. Last year stems died back about half and leaves were evergreen only until snowmelt, and then died. New culms emerged from the base during the growing season too. They have a 8 inch shredded oak leaf mulch over them. The tallest stems are 24+ inches.
