You might want to check out this tread on 'Fruit & Orchards' forum, it includes some discussion on Ranier in the Mid-Atlantic. But I think the general opinion was no, much better to go with one of the softer type cherries that resist cracking in our climate. I've grown the sour cherry 'Northstar' with good success, and installed a 'Black Gold' sweet cherry last year, so can't say much about that one yet -- but it has good reviews.

Great thread. I saw that Edible Landscaping sells Ranier...which is why I'd hoped maybe I could too. Sounds a little risky tho after reading that thread.

I planted Northstar last year. I'll check out the Black Gold.
