Might have the wrong item. Hot climate will also be hard on color retention, but still should be discernible as a red variety.

2 possibilities i can think of atm:

    1- it was mislabeled

2 - too hot, too much sun, i have an Emperor 1, which was dark red/almost black in the spring and early summer, now it is dark green.

not sure about the white specks, could be bugs...

Consensus of opinion seems to be mislabeled, nursery I purchased from said poor spring weather in his area the problem CQ should show true color in fall so we will see. Jerry

Green cultvars are often vivid green with no hint of purple. There are also intermediate types. But 'Crimson Queen' is a good purple one so should have at least some hint of this all season even in a punitively hot climate.

Are you trying to grow a norway maple in Florida?!?

    Correction:
Are you trying to grow a Japanese maple in Florida?!?
(Got the crimson queen and crimson queen mixed up there!)

Japanese maples can and do grow in Florida. It depends where in FL the OP is located and the siting. They grow and thrive in zone 10 coastal southern California, so if provided appropriate growing conditions, selected cultivars can also be expected to grow in zone 9 Florida as well.

gardengal... you're comparing southern california's climate to florida through cold hardiness zone ratings but the cold hardiness is not what is in question but instead the prolonged extreme heat and 24 hour 85% & up relative humidities.
Currently it's 65 degrees in L.A. and 91 in Miami. Whatever heat they think they have out there in california is not as prolonged and coupled with humidity conducive to diseases. Low temperartures in florida this time of year some times don't even make it into the upper 70's. Sometimes the low temp is in the 80s.
The degree of UV rays and proximity to the sun also makes for scorching conditions for Japanese maples.

It is not the heat or the humidity that is at issue here but rather the lack of an extended cold period or dormancy that is the limiting factor. The panhandle and as far down as central Florida should be accommodating (zone 8&9) -- southern Florida is another issue. Japanese maples grow in California's Central Valley, which has extended heat waves in summer that far exceed those temperatures experienced in Florida. In fact, there's several large growing operations located there. And they grow J. maples in Texas also. Dealing with heat and humidity is a matter of selecting a suitable cultivar and maximizing the correct siting and other manageable growing conditions. You can't fake or alter the lack of adequate winter cold.

That too. But when the OP talks of folar issues and "white specks" in the summer when temperatures in central florida are in the 90's and low temps in the upper 70's and low 80's with daily rain and 90% humidity... Hmmm.

Since the OP has not provided photos, it is just speculation that there is something wrong with the plant, other than most likely NOT being a correctly labeled 'Crimson Queen'. "Green with white specks" is a valid description of undiseased foliage on several cultivars of JM. Also, depending on source and how recently this tree was received and planted, there could be various other issues that would affect the appearance other than a reaction to what you might consider an inappropriate climate.

Hard to know exactly what's going on until we can see samples of the plant in question.
