I have grown Sea Holly for years. I ordered my Sea Holly from Spring Hill a few years ago. The type I have smells very bad and I would encourage you to put it in the back of the garden, or put it near something very fragrant. It self seeds very well, and I also have winter sowed it to. Tammy

I have 4 eringiums (sea holly) in a front raised bed here in Saint Paul (got them from GW Swap last spring too!) and they over-wintered beautifully and are growing VERY well. I don't care about the smell where they are located, as they are in a bed with Sea foam statis, cannas, and a special rosebush :)

Species, people, species! Which are you talking about?

Eryngium alpinum and amethystinum are the more common ones, and are a bit more difficult to grow. Planum and tripartatum are a bit more coarse, but VERY easy. I have tripartatum.

Thank you Rick - You know, I only know that one of mine is Alpinum, but the other three? I have no clue and won't until they bloom.... I also can't spell ;)
