Do you do this?

I always eagerly order hostas in the fall and winter with visions of wonderful, mature plants, and then when I get the young, immature plants in the spring and get them in the ground, except for keeping them watered, mulched, etc., I practically ignore them for a year or two until they begin to show signs of growing up other than to check and see if they are still alive and well.

I know they are going to change drastically as they get older, and those plain jane leaves are going to be wonderful soon.

Or do you watch them closely, measuring to see if they've grown any, count their little eyes and leaves, check for waves and variegations and examine each new leaf?
