deck splinters

We replaced our decking last year (2004)using mahogony thinking it would eliminate the splinters our grandchildren were getting from the old planking. It hasn't worked, the splinters are still evident - just smaller than before. Is there a sealant other than the "weather sealants" like Thompsons which would help eliminate splinters?

Anne, you took the wrong exit in NJ and landed squarely in Mid Atlantic Gardening. I suspect there will be deck experts passing through here on the way to the compost, but you might want to post your question in the geographically neutral 'Porches and Decks' forum (forum name might not be exactly right) on That Home Site.
