The pink lady slippers are hard to come by, and when you do find them they are pricey. I bought my pink lady slipper at the state fair a couple years ago. Oh and today is the last day of the Friends plants sale that some one posted on here and they had the pink lady slipper there, I seen it on the list of plants. Under the rare plants section.

Red bleeding hearts are not the same species as the old fashioned type(D. spectabilis). They are usually Dicentra eximia, are smaller plants with smaller and slightly differently formed flowers. But they are pretty much everyblooming all through the summer. The color is usually a bit washed out red, rather that a solid deep hue. I think if you ask for fernleaf bleeding hearts, everblooming BH, or dwarf BH, rather than red BH, you'll have better luck. They shouldn't be that hard to find at local nurseries.

Pink ladyslippers, whichever species it turns out to be will be an expensive and hard to find plant. In my opinion, it is a good excuse that you can't find it, because it is a relatively difficult plant to grow, and even more so for a child. Cultivating it is usually dissappointing unless you can meet its specific needs.

Thank you for your help. Although my daughter is dissapointed, I convinced her to pick a different perennial. I am sure when she sees the assortment of different flowers that she can choose from her disappointment will disappear.
