Well, it usually does set a plant back to transplant it, more or less depending on the plant. If it's still (mostly) dormant and really needs to be moved, I say go for it. I think they prefer poorer soils to rich, and very well-drained. Do you have a cultivar?

I probably don't have a cultivar. I notice they are not hardy past zone 5. I planted mine in a bad place - way too far toward the front of the bed. It is probably not getting enough sun either. I got it in the fall and just stuck it in so that it would get in the ground before winter. Now I face either leaving it in a bad spot or moving it again. Carmellia

I have a Yucca, no I have two now. I don't give mine any special care or anything. It's kinda ignored except for watering.

I brought one home about 6 years ago from my sisters in Kansas. It grows each year, but has yet to flower. We moved it about 2 ft, a couple of years ago, so we could run some underground wiring. Now I have two, for I have the one we moved and a new one that grew back from where the first one had been. My sister has dug and dug hers up and gives it away, each year, and she also gets a new one back. She has tried to get rid of it and it never goes away. Be sure you want it where you plant it. My sis also said hers took quite a few years before it bloomed and it's in sun most all day.

Mine bloomed about every third year and produced 5 babies that I gave away. After 10 years, it croaked, I guess I will be either asking for a baby back or buy a new one.
