I might substitute 'Purple Ghost' for the Frosted Strawberry. The color contrast is more distinct and it's not quite as foo-foo a culitvar. Frosted Strawberry is not very sun tolerant, even in my very northerly, mild summer climate.

If you are really interested in variegation, check out 'Manyo no Sato' - an unusual and very striking color combination. And the tree holds it well all season.

I have decided I may get an Amagi Shigure in the spring, so that should fill the "Purple Ghost" slot. And I've got plenty of shade of all descriptions (I live on 6 acres, garden on about an acre of that), so that shouldn't be a problem with Frosted Strawberry.

And that Manyo no Sato does look cool, doesn't it? I just saw pics for the first time yesterday. I'm putting that on the possibles list for spring as well -- it and Amagi Shigure are both available at reasonable prices from Eastfork Nursery (or will be by spring), I noticed.

I have amber, first and purple.....amber is a must have, purple second fav.... then first....my favorite contrast is beni kawa and fireglow.... classic!

I haven't heard much about amber yet -- that's good to know. :-)

And now I have to look up pics of beni kawa and fireglow!

Both Beni Kawa and Fireglow are great little trees but not variegated.

Actually, unless you have a very large garden, IMO a little variegation goes a long ways :-) Might be nice to have some solid leaf color contrast.

Perish the thought -- there is no such thing as too much variegation. :-)
