There are is a big, beautiful maple in my front yard, planted by a previous owner. About a year and a half ago, a tornado passed through not far from here and a huge section of it came down. My husband put caulk over the torn area and the tree seemed to be making a comeback, even showing some new growth this past summer. Then a windstorm just a couple of months ago caused another big branch to come down. Now the bark on the trunk is starting to peel back, and the leaves have turned brown rather than red and many have fallen off.

Does this mean the tree is dying, and is there anything we can do to save it?
