Kasagi yama JM cutting

I cut a branch off of a young Kasagi yama JM and stuck it in the soil. It's been over/about one and a half months already. The top dried up, but I see the bottom 8 buds still looking red. You think it's done dying and is now established??? Or is it still too soon to tell?

How well does the JM do on it's own root system? Think it will survive the winter?
