I can't speak specifically to 'Fire Star', but I'm amazed that the more common dianthus thrive for me in the west side of the metro. Five years running they've come back in a big way, even this year with our weird spring. In Minneapolis, they never came back. They've even self-seeded into my rock patio. I have to make a trip to Lowe's now. They sound just gorgeous and I love the bloom and scent of dianthus.

I hope they survive, I couldn't pass them up and got 3 of them earlier this year. They were in the perenial section so fingers crossed!
