Rhubarb doesn't do well in our hot humid climate. I planted some in my garden a few years ago; it never did well and just petered out before it ever got big enough to harvest.

Some of that *might* be our clay soil, as much as the heat. I haven't had rhubarb here for a long time, but if I were to try to grow it again, this time I'd amend the soil well so it was rich and humusy but well-drained. (I think my earlier plants drowned one winter.) The chosen place, since I'm looking at heat reduction and don't have to worry about bloom and fruit production, would be in full sun only for the morning hours.
