I planted my Redbud back in '01. This is the first year that it has really bloomed well. It actually just finished blooming. I would say that this cooler weather may have slowed down its leaf budding process. If it is still green under the bark, there is hope. Give it time. If it doesn't leaf out in the next couple of weeks, then I would be concerned and would contact linder's.

I purchased a redbud last fall- and burried the container to heel it over for the winter till I could prepare a bed for it. I thought it was a goner till just this week I noticed little leaves spouting lower down the trunk. There is still no bud swell on the branches- but it is wanting to live- and has found a way to feed itself a little- I would give yours more time to warm up and get the blood pumping- it's been darn cold and dreary, and alot of the plants are acting rather slow- at least the warm weather ones are.

The ones at the Arb were in full bloom on 5/11. It can't hurt to wait a little longer (I am), but I'm not harboring much hope for mine...

My redbud is on its third summer and has never looked worse. There are flower buds swelling ever so slowly and so are leaf buds nearer the center. I am going to wait till June 1, then prune back the branches to break buds if necessary.

I have two Minn. strain, planted about three years ago. One had VERY few flowers this year, the other lots, which are being blown off today by the western minnesota gale. Leaves are coming now.

Thanks everyone for your feedback -- its good to know that we should be seeing leaves soon (no sign yet) ... and its somewhat consoling to know that more established trees are coming on slowly too. Sounds like this was a rough winter on shrubs and marginally hardy trees.

I'll give it a couple of weeks and then (choke) head back to Linders. The tough question will be whether to try a redbud again, or to go with something tougher.

My redbud is now covered with swelling buds, both leaf and flower, and some leaves have appeared on the main trunk near the bottom. Definitely not a deadbud.
