I too mourn what seems to be the passing of this forum. I've at long last become active on Facebook and joined one plant group, but it is way too big and cumbersome. There is no way to ask as focused questions or carry on a half dozen conversations as easily as here.

That aside, have you been able to grab a photo of your candidate culprit and the damage? I can show the photos to several of the top plant bug people here at the Beltsville Ag Research Center and see if they know and have recommendations.

A lot of the regional forums seem to have slowed down. We're trying to revive the New Jersey Gardening forum. Maybe you can do the same with some provocative new threads?

CEFreeman, did you ever get a photo of the insect you inquired about?

Some of the new/revived threads over in NJ are: planting garlic, which garden centers do you like, first frost, winter protection.

I'm about to start one on autumn - end or beginning? and how we cope/compensate.

I haven't been on the board since the MIdAtl Swap. When I'd check in, it seemed as though few people were writing in or answering post questions. So there was lots of elapsed time. It didn't seem like there were enough people around to respond or have a conversation. So what is this being replaced with? You can't even find a FB post after a while if there's a lot of new ones on top of it.
Were the insects leaf hoppers?

I think of you every time I get near that rose. It jumps out and picks me. LOL. Do you happen to remember what the variety was? It is quite the show stopper when in bloom. This fall, it shot out a 10' (no joke) branch that is waving in the air. It also appears to have seed pods...?

I never did find out what the bug was. It really did disappear after I asked. It'll be back next year, I'm sure.

I think I'll post a few things, just to get some action here. It's a shame, because I keep referring people here, who see nothing and go on.

I thought spiders were good! I have a lot near these plants.

My little bug looks nothing like the one in the picture at UCDavis, but they did mention different colors. Mine's wings aren't translucent. They're solid green and solid white. Nonetheless, they do behave as described.

The spiders may be after the leaf hoppers.

It really looks like a sulphur butterfly (not sure about size though) or a burrowing mayfly (if the body is elongated-can't tell from picture).
