Tomatillo's are like weeds in my garden. I've only grown them for a couple of yrs in this garden but I haven't had a problem with them...only how to use em all.

"Mexican tomato" or "husk tomato" is related to the tomato and gooseberry. The husk is removed before cooking and they look like a tiny green tomato. They're generally used to make salsa but also used in guacamole and are essential in making salsa verde. They taste kind of lemony to me.

I've grown them up here on Long Island, NY for years. I'm between zones 6 and 7 - depends on the year. Only had to plant the seeds once - after that, they self-seeded. Vigorous - they'll take over the garden by the end of summer, if I let them :) Never had the little green worms, though. Do you see them on tomatoes or other solanums as well?

the usual tomato pests on the tomatos, fruit worms and such, but not little green worms that I've seen in the tomatillos, stink bugs are probably my worst tomato pest.

I've grown ground cherries aka husk tomatoes (Physalis pruinosa) for the past two years, and I haven't seen any little green worms either. They're very vigorous and productive until all of a sudden they poop out.
