Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Moudry'is the black one. It's completely hardy, and is the very last grass to bloom in my yard. It's also a very heavy self seeder, even worse than chasmanthium latifolium. (You will like that though right?!?)

It has a nice low form and I really love the big bottle brush flowerheads. Here it is last September in front of Miscanthus Adagio.

I have 2 of these, I think, and love them. I had no idea this was their Latin name and feel silly!

Mine doesn't reseed because I mulch so heavily. I even bury the stuff I cut off in the spring (blades and seed heads) under the mulch, where they stay to decompose. At least they have so far! [LOL]
