It's a selection that arose from a witch's broom, introduced by Stupka Nursery, Poulaski, PA. It is considered one of the Matsumurae grouping with deeply lobed leaves. Color starts out a candy apple red, fading a bit in summer but with typically a red/green tint with new growth still holding that pinkish red tone. Fall coloring is in the orange tones. It is shrubby and twiggy in form and quite dwarf, achieving only about 6' in height.

Is it worth a lot of money? That depends. Any Japanese maple has the ability to command some hefty prices depending on age, mature form and rarity of cultivar. Dwarfs tend to be more expensive as they are often held longer before sale to develop more substance and holding/growing time = $$.
