Yep, got stung by one the other day. Knew not to touch it, but brushed it by accident. There were two on my rose.

Yeeeouuuch! I got stung today while weeding. At first I thought it might be stinging nettle but after looking around I saw the caterpillar on one of the perennials. After washing with a scrubby brush to make sure there were no hairs left, I tried a baking powder paste to take away the sting. It was fairly effective but it took an hour or more for the last of the stinging to go away.

I have four of the little beasts feeding on one of my jujubes. One got me when I went to look at a branch to see what was going on. I was reminded of nettles too. It sure hurt! But the whelt went down pretty fast.

I had a bunch of these on my roses, too but had a feeling they were nasty little guys. Someone on the Antique rose forum suggested putting plantain leaves (the weed, not the fruit - see link) on a sting. My guys took a sudsy water bath along with the dozen or so horn worms I found and haven't been seen since. I helped them in with gloves and the jar lid. I guess somebody likes the hot, dry weather we've had since I had never seen them before and found a half dozen last week.

: ) Heck, I've got lots of plantains around, why didn't I know that? I've considered moving mine (the saddlebacks, not the weeds) to a more hale plant, but haven't yet. One today wiggled its spines at me when I poked it with my clippers. None of my neighbors have seen any at all.
