I love to play Andrea Boccelli at night while I sit in my wooden swing and enjoy the evening visitors (moths, bats, sometimes skunks--yikes!) I also love Indian ragas and guitar music. Still love Van Morrison too. My brugmansias are still hanging in there, and believe it or not, some hibiscus are in bloom. You wouldn't want to trade places with me in the blazing summer, however. Enjoy your white winter. Everyplace has its own charm, right?

My favorite moon music is made by burbling creeks, by peepers and crickets, by the sleepy babbling of ducks, and by the occasional owl hooting softly.

Sometimes I enjoy more bracing tunes -- like the singing of coyotes.

Mazzy Star. I don't believe they play any songs about the moon, per se, but they kind of sound like the moon would sound if the moon played music.

Oh, and let's not forget the B52's "There's a Moon in the Sky (It's Called the Moon)."

And to prepare oneself for the urban moon-garden world, there's nothing like a preliminary screening of Norman Jewison's "Moonstruck," featuring Cher and Nicholas Cage. The soundtrack to this stellar film features a song called "Mr. Moon."

Anyone remember Moon over Miami or Blue Moon of Kentucky? Whew, these are oldies.

While I tend to agree with John D as far as enjoying the natural sounds, there are lots of "Moon" songs. Paper Moon, Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd, Harvest Moon - Jason & the Scorchers, Moon over Marin - Dead Kennedys; I guess it depends on the mood you're looking for. And then there are zillions of night songs...Hard Day's Night - Beatles, After Midnight - Eric Clapton, etc.

Thanks so much. I never dreamed you could look up lyrics just from the first line. So interesting to read the different versions. It's funny in version the moon was hideing behind the old oak tree and ours hid behind the apple tree. I wonder if grandpa changed it or if it was another version. Guess it just depends on where you live. The theme of the moon seeing the one you love who is far away was echoed in another string about using mirrors in the garden. Very interesting.

A thought: if you could do anything with the moon, anything at all, put it wherever you wanted, decorated it whichever way, what would you do with it?

I think I might sink it into the Atlantic for a wee little bit, just to see the ocean shine from the inside! Of course, my 'magical moon powers' would allow for the moon to actually shine after being plunked into the ocean.
