Oh how exciting!!!! Are you going to do anything to try to help them survive, Larry? So many hatchlings don't make it thru the first winter.

It's survival of the fittest in our yard. We don't do much but create a good wildlife environment and then let nature take its course. So far I've only seen the one hatchling, but I'll keep an eye out for any more and move them out of the rose garden area.

They will probably follow some undeciphered rule and disperse over the neighborhood so they are not crowded. I generally move any I see sitting in the road and am happy to say I have seen others do the same. There does not seem to be much a person can do beyond this (unless you want to pen or cage them, this being illegal to do) because I am convinced they somehow develop a distance between individuals that is breached only briefly during mating.
You were priveleged to see the new babies and the nest, as, after many years of having them around, I have never seen this.
