Rhubarb has proven difficult for me with the weather extremes we've had these last several years. Victoria is durable but not as desirable as other red types. Valentine is an outstanding red but hard to find. Most rhubarb is kind of expensive too. Canada red is good as is Macdonald. Stark Bros has a nice red variety too--Starkrimson, I believe. You can get Macdonald and Cawood from Nourse Bros. I usually get Valentine and Canada Red from Daisy out of Mich. Of course, you contact Stark Bros for their variety. My favorite is an old fashioned variety I got from my grandma. It is bright red and sweet but has small stalks. It's by far the best tasting of all my rhubarb. Unfortunately, I've lost most of it. We have had droughts or bad floods for the last six years, making it hard on the rhubarb.

I let a canada red go to seed this year and I'm going to try growing it out and see what happens. you can tell really young with rhubarb seedlings who is going to be more red and who is going to be more green. Most of my customers prefer Victoria in a taste test. You just have to educate them as to mostly green rhubarb and get them to try it once.
