I have dug and moved them- I read that they don't like it because of a taproot so I took quite a bit of dirt with each seedling but they did just fine and bloomed the following year. Mine were Indian Summer Mix.

I've never had trouble moving them!

I started mine from seed in my office/greenhouse :-) Moved them to the cold frame then to the garden. After they were HUGE (for first season) I realized they were WAY too close together and moved them during that 90 degree stretch of days we've just come out of. They've been in the new spot about a week (most of it hot) and I cut off a number of the larger leaves when I moved them (to conserve on moisture loss) and have watered them plenty, and they look great so far. Of course, next year (when they should bloom) will tell the story, I guess!
